Re-Soul-utions for the Christian

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God

~ Hebrews 12:1-2

For many people, with a New Year comes New Year's resolutions.

We often make good intentions - health and fitness, organization, finances, etc. - but the one mistake that many Christians make in setting New Year's resolutions is that they often leave God out of it.

Why are we making these changes to begin with? What is the point of us even making changes in our life?

For the Christian, the reason that we would even want to make changes in our life is to bring us closer to God and His will for our life. The purpose should be to help us become more Christ-like.

To help you, I created this list to help guide you in creating Biblically-based resolutions for the New Year.

Love The Brethren
Colossians 3:13 - Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone ; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.

Actively Seek to Help Those in Need
Matthew 25:35-36 - 'For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat ; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink ; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.'

Improve Your Physical Well-Being
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own ? For you have been bought with a price : therefore glorify God in your body.

Love Others
Mark 12:30-31 - And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this, You shall love your neighbour as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.

Spend Time with God in Prayer and the Word

Colossians 3:16 - Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Hide God's Word in Your Heart
Joshua 1:8 - "This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success."

Share the Love of God with Others
Matthew 5:16 - "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Have a Grateful Heart

1 Chronicles 16:34 - O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good ; For His loving-kindness is everlasting.

Pursue Christ with Renewed Vigor
Psalm 51:12 - Restore to me the joy of Your salvation And sustain me with a willing spirit.

Most "experts" will tell us that in order to have successful goals, they must be specific. This list is very general, but you might find them as a good starting point in creating your own list. You may want to take each of these general goals, and then add to them how you can specifically enact this goal in your life in the next year. For example, if healthy eating and better fitness is important, then add them as bullet points below your own list.

Improve Your Physical Well-Being
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own ? For you have been bought with a price : therefore glorify God in your body.
* Exercise for 30-minutes 3-times a week.
* Replace one snack each day with a piece of fruit.

I look forward to seeing how you utilize these Re-Soul-utions for the Christian!

31 Days to a Clean Home

Yesterday, I told you about my 31-day plan to do a thorough cleaning around my house through the month of January. Of course, as soon as I finished putting together, I found out about the New Year's Organizing Revolution, being coordinated at "I'm an Organizing Junkie", and so I've decided to do that instead, especially as there are PRIZES involved!

Well, since I had already done the work, I thought that those of you out there in the cyber world might still like to have your own 31-day plan, especially if you can't start immediately, or just simply don't want to (or can't) participate over there.

Of course, this was designed with my own house in mind, but you can always modify it for your own use, as well as enlist others to assist you - i.e. giving the kids chores!

30 Days to a Clean House... err... Stop the Press! NEW YEAR'S ORGANIZING REVOLUTION

The New Year is upon us, and with it come grandiose dreams of bettering our selves by setting resolutions.

I set goals every year, myself - some I keep, while others sadly fall by the way side sometime in mid-February. Yet others, I find myself setting part way through the year when I realize that there is something I need to commit to.

One of the things I had been planning, resolution or not, was to take the month of January and try and get some deep cleaning done and clearing out of clutter that plagues our home. In fact, I had gone through the task of writing up a chore-list of sorts, with a different job to do each day. In fact, I had even been contemplating posting that list here for my 'oh-so-many' readers and those who might just happen-chance upon it while searching for their own 30-days to a Clean House list.

Well, it's not necessary right now. Okay, change that... I may still use it, by rearranging the planning, as website, "I'm An Organizing Junkie," is hosting a month-long "New Year's Organizing Revolution," complete with blog hops, posting parties and, best yet, PRIZES!

According to the Organizing Junkie website:

"Each Monday, starting December 31st, we will announce the room or area and give you ALL WEEK to work on that space - even if it's just a drawer in that area or the WHOLE room (it's totally up to you). Then, YOU take pictures - nice ones with your cell phone or camera. You post them on your blog or on your Pinterest board and we are going to have a HUGE Link Party and everyone will VOTE on whose they like the best. So YOU can win!!"
